Blackstone, Hilton Could Benefit In Cuba From HNA Group Of China Shareholding

McLean, Virginia-based Hilton Worldwide Holdings Inc., which is 46% owned by New York, New York-based The Blackstone Group L.P., has announced an agreement to sell 25% of its shareholding in Hilton Worldwide Holdings Inc., to Haikou, Hainan, China-based HNA Group Co. Ltd., for US$6.5 billion.  After the transaction, The Blackstone Group L.P. will control 25% of Hilton Worldwide Holdings Inc.

Hilton Worldwide Holdings Inc. has 4,830 properties in 104 countries and territories, including 84 in the People's Republic of China.

Given the expanding commercial, economic and political integration between the government of the People's Republic of China and government of the Republic of Cuba, as Hilton Worldwide Holdings Inc. seeks management opportunities within the Republic of Cuba, the ownership position of HNA Group Co. Ltd. will be of value.

Madrid, Spain-based NH Hotel Group, within which HNA Group Co. Ltd. has a 29.5% shareholding, manages the 220-room NH Capri La Habana in the city of Havana, Republic of Cuba.
